Executed major earned media advocacy campaigns

Guided press relations and media trainings for low wage workers fighting for  NYC’s Living Wage bill. Created campaign and Change.org petition that resulted in suspension of MSNBC pundit Ed Schultz for using misogynistic language on air. Project manager for Name It. Change It. media watchdog campaign during 2010 elections to monitor and address sexist coverage of women candidates. Ghostwrote and placed Op-Eds educating voters about an anti-gay marriage ballot initiative in major daily newspapers during Florida’s No on 2 Campaign. Worked with local statewide campaigns to provide media training, lists, and talking points to leaders protests in 12 states after the passage of California’s Prop 8. Managed media campaign for Equality is Gainesville’s Business during a city ballot initiative to overturn protections for gay and transgender citizens from discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations. Led national LTE campaign for hate crime legislation during Matthew Shepard 10 year remembrance.


Broke national news stories resulting in positive changes.

Appeared on story about transgender student denied housing at a state university, resulting in a more inclusive housing policy (Star Jones, 2008). Broke national undercover story about US religious leaders’ ties to an anti-gay bill in Uganda (Time, Newsweek, Rachel Maddow Show, New York Times, CNN, ABC). Elevated retail workers’ voices resulting in CNN feature on retail workers forced to work on Thanksgiving Day and a front page Sunday New York Times story on just-in-time scheduling trends. Managed publicity campaign for history title Fordlandia, resulting in a National Book Award Nomination and NYT “Best of” Year end book list. Frequent commentator on local and national media outlets for women’s, economic justice, and gay rights issues. Trained teens on blogging, and social media and conducting interviews with Robert Redford and directors at 2011 Sundance Film Festival, raising national awareness about gender disparities in filmmaking.
